The clueless response of the Hawaii White House to the Syrian use of deadly chemical weapons attack is unbelievable . Obama says he has decided that the United States should take military action against Syria, but he says he will seek congressional authorization. He says congressional leadership plans to hold a debate and a vote as soon as Congress comes back mid. September. No it’s no loner Bush's fault. This is Obama's game now. it looks pretty absurd when you see him getting all antsy about taking over health care, and almost falling asleep when dealing with terrorists trying to kill us.
Obama’s meeting with his top national security advisers does nothing to change the fact that his fundamental approach to terrorism is fatally flawed. We are at war with radical Islamic extremists and treating this threat as a law enforcement issue is dangerous for our nation’s security. That’s what happened in the 1990s and we saw the result on September 11, 2001. This is a war on terror not an “overseas contingency operation.” Acts of terrorism are just that, not “man caused disasters.” The system did not work with Abdulmutallab was a child of privilege radicalized and trained by organized jihadists, not an “isolated extremist” who traveled to a land of “crushing poverty.” He is an enemy of the United States, not just another criminal defendant.
And now we have this threat in Syria, but it looks like he is backpedaling now because he know that he bit off more than he an chew and now he backed himself into a hole. That hole was call his “Red Line”. .
Yes, lets just sit around and wait another 10 days or so, until we can discuss it. In the meantime Syria will be moving their chemical weapons and moving their troops into civilian areas. So when we send those bombs in they will be killing civilians. How dumb can someone be? He made a decision to set the stage for saying "I wanted to do something but republicans wouldn't let me." And that will be his way out. It is simply a way for him to sidestep his declared "redline", do nothing as usual - and be able to hide behind and blame congress for it.
And if the Congress does not approve - this will save obama's face and save this country from another unnecessary war.
Obama's approach to terrorism is troubling

Isn't it wonderful when a plan comes together?

Sounds like it's working as planned.

Hi Francis,

Thank you for the excellent comment. I hear your frustration. Problem for me is, there are a bunch of different terrorist groups, 2 of which are at war in Syria.

Obama also, I feel, did not have Constitutional authority to begin a war as no Americans nor American soil was threatened in the Syrian chemical weapons attack. As much as a horror as it was, it is more of a UN issue than an American one.

Also, and this is the MOST weird part, the rebels we are thinking of aiding are AL QAEDA. Don't get me wrong. I am no fan of Hezbollah/Iran-backed Assad. And I am sure Israelis know much more about the nuances of the situation than I do and they have their opinions in the matter.

But this brings me back to Egypt and Libya. Does overthrowing a dictator in favor of AL QAEDA stabilize or further destroy the region. I see all the church burnings in Egypt and murders in and around Libya and I think maybe cheering on the AL QAEDA backed rebels is not so good of an idea. Maybe not even for Israel.

Also, I don't know that Hezbollah was involved in 9/11/01 World Trade Center attack. I don't mean to harp on old history, but I will admit I carry a grudge. And that grudge is against SAUDI (15 of 19 hijackers were SAUDI) militants, aka AL QAEDA.

I'll be DAMNED if I will fight alongside them.

For whatever reason we avoid this, is good for me and our country. Whether Obama is weak, nuanced, suddenly constitutional, whatever.

Let's submit the Syrian issue to the UN where it belongs.
