DEMS Intend to Stall Scott Brown's Swearing-In Until AFTER Obamacare Vote?

Today, a spokesman for Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin, who is overseeing the election but did not respond to a call seeking comment, said certification of the Jan. 19 election by the Governor’s Council would take a while.

“Because it’s a federal election,” spokesman Brian McNiff said. “We’d have to wait 10 days for absentee and military ballots to come in.”

Another source told the Herald that Galvin’s office has said the election won’t be certified until Feb. 20 - well after the president’s address.

Since the U.S. Senate doesn’t meet again in formal session until Jan. 20, Bay State voters will have made their decision before a vote on health-care reform could be held. But Kirk and Galvin’s office said today a victorious Brown would be left in limbo.

In contrast, Rep. Niki Tsongas (D-Lowell) was sworn in at the U.S. House of Representatives on Oct. 18, 2007, just two days after winning a special election to replace Martin Meehan. In that case, Tsongas made it to Capitol Hill in time to override a presidential veto of the expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Yesterday, Brown, who has been closing the gap with Coakley in polls and fund raising, blasted the political double standard.

“This is a stunning admission by Paul Kirk and the Beacon Hill political machine,” said Brown in a statement. “Paul Kirk appears to be suggesting that he, Deval Patrick, and (Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid intend to stall the election certification until the health care bill is rammed through Congress, even if that means defying the will of the people of Massachusetts. As we’ve already seen from the backroom deals and kickbacks cut by the Democrats in Washington, they intend to do anything and everything to pass their controversial health care plan. But threatening to ignore the results of a free election and steal this Senate vote from the people of Massachusetts takes their schemes to a whole new level. Martha Coakley should immediately disavow this threat from one of her campaign’s leading supporters.”

I seem to remember that Nancy Pelosi wasted no time in swearing in NY23's Rep. Owens just in time to pass PelosiCare. She swore him in while they were still canvassing votes.

How much lower can Dems go? They are following their pattern of defying the will of the people. These low-lifes will do anything to pass Obamacare. What they're planning if Brown wins is unconstitutional and I hope Obamacare is held up in courts for years if Dems go through with their dirty trickery.

RightKlik said...

They are trying to take the steam out of our effort. If Brown is elected, ObamaCare is dead, no questions asked. It would be an earth shaking event that could not be ignored. Even if he makes it a close race, I don't know if Democrats would still have enough momentum to pass ObamaCare.

And I think the Dems will need quite a bit of time to work out remaining issues. They can stall to try to thwart the will of Massachusetts voters, but they can't stall indefinitely.

The fact that they're putting out this message just shows you how frightened they are that Brown will win.

RightKlik, thank you for your hopeful message. I really needed to hear that.

Teresa, they are willing to stoop so low, even I am surprised.

TCL, there is no precedent for what they are planning to do. And to talk about it openly before an election? This is a topsy turvy world indeed.

More "liberal logic": When Brown wins, it will be clear that the people of Massachusetts OPPOSE the HC bill, but Kirk, states that by stalling it and voting FOR it, he's "representing the people"? WTF?

As usual, they don't get it, but they will.

Tyipical, is this liberal thug politics.

Some time ago I stopped believing anything democrats say. ANYTHING!!

It has been said before, regarding democrats: "If it ain't close, they can't cheat."

Is this really a surprise? They’ve worked so hard at ramming this "health care" bill down our throats; do you think something like an election is going to stop them? Maybe it’s because I was born and raised in Chicago that this doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. The will of the people? The Democrats don’t care about the will of the people. They scoff at the will of the people. The entire concept of “the will of the people” is held in utter contempt. For that matter, the people are held in utter contempt. If they actually cared about our health the Democrats wouldn’t be passing this bill.

Welcome to my world. This is not the first time legislators in Mass have changed the rules to suit the situation. These people keep voting for the same people and expecting different results? Barney Frank...one reason we are into the third year of the recession. Will he be elected again?

The fix is in, and has been in, since Zero was sworn in. Bastards. Their corruption knows no boundaries.

Opus #6 said...

Fuzzy, they are so determined to pass their government takeover they will stop at nothing, it would appear.

Woodsterman (Odie) said...

I'm not surprised at all. The Dems have been lying and cheating my whole life. Why would I think they would change now.

Opus #6 said...

M, these people need to be out of power for at least the next 50 years. So as to wait for a new generation to grow up. The old one is a DUD!

Opus #6 said...

Nickie, well, I hope they don't follow through on this threat. This would be one time I would be glad they were not true to their word.

Opus #6 said...

Wofat, a rousing victory, or even any victory at all in BLUE Massachusetts will be a tall order. But attainable, in my opinion.

Opus #6 said...

Arby, you are right on. If they cared about us, they would not be doing this in the first place.

Lady Di, I am praying the people of MA see the error of their ways and correct it on Jan 19.

Opus #6 said...

Snarky, well, the fix needs to be OUT. They all need to be OUT of office!

These are the same people who changed the rules to be sure Mitt Romney couldn't appoint a Republican to replace Kerry if he had won the presidential election. Then changed the rules again so Deval Patrick could appoint a democrat to replace Kennedy. Why would any of these shenanigans surprise anyone anymore?

My God, when have the democrats waited for Military Absentee ballots to come in.

They have no shame, no conscience, no nothing. Everything is in bounds to liberals.

Chris W said...

This is Massachusetts, what do you expect. People seem to forget just how corrupt that state is.

Only in MA can the State Senate President, Billy Bulger, have a brother who is #1 in the FBI most wanted list, Whitey Bulger.

Billy has since received a golden parachute from UMass and Whitey is still in hiding after 16 years.

RightKlik said...

This is backfiring for the Dems. Brown's phones are on ringing off the hooks at his headquarters. MA voters are very angry and fired up for Brown.

Just a conservative girl said...

I heard a slightly different take on this. I didn't get it all, but it had to do with the current person sitting in the office. He was going to do something to delay it.

AMAZING, or maybe not.

Chris W, I believe that the numbers from PPP are from before this thing blew up last night regarding failure to seat Brown if he wins. I wonder how that fact will affect the race.

M.A., it should motivate voters more than ever and generate a lot of support. Why otherwise? At this point, we are so-o-o-o-o pissed that stunts like this won't make us go away.

Like "W" said some years back, "BRING IT ON!"

If this is a run away for Brown and the Demos still refuse to swear him in, the National uproar (Radio shows and such) had better move the Repubs to Action!

Fuzzy Slippers said...

Hi Opus, you amazing patriot, you! People in MA are pi#*ed off. This story has sent indies who weren't sure into Brown's camp faster than you can say "corruption." The PPP poll wasn't released until last night at 7 p.m., but the data, I believe, was gathered BEFORE the refusal to seat Brown to ram this through story broke (not sure about that, but I doubt they ran and posted a whole poll in a day. Rasmussen does, but they're unique in that, I think, again not sure). Either way, though, every America should be outraged. This is exactly what we've been worried about: we vote, they ignore our votes, and do what they want in any corrupt way possible.
