“The beauty of being a narcissist is that even when disaster stares you in the face, you feel neither doubt nor remorse.” —Carl Vogel, A Field Guide to Narcissism
Politicians on both sides of the aisle are becoming perturbed about the president’s “I - ME” fixation - the manifest hubris of
Obama is also causing angst among our allies. French President Nicolas Sarkozy is especially irked with him. On Greta van Susteren, Jack Kelly of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that at the UN general assembly, Obama’s advisors told him not to interfere with his “fantasy about global
Former Senator Rick Santorum added, “The international
This is all seen by our allies as just a president who is incredibly naïve
He went on to describe “the fantasy of Obama foreign policy” in Iran: “Obama, we now know, knew about this other nuclear facility, which in all likelihood is developing a nuclear weapon, and stood on the sidelines and allowed that movement which would have taken away potentially a regime that was going to develop nuclear
“I think the ‘narcissist in chief’ is in over his head and is detrimental to our national security.
Former CIA official Michael Scheuer called Obama a perpetual adolescent and a dishonest man. Foreign policy expert Lawrence Eagleburger said he has no faith in Obama as a leader. Lt. Col. Jeff Addicott said Obama doesn’t know what he’s doing, that they need strategic clarity from him in Afghanistan. Another expert on FNC said he wishes Obama would make a decision about Afghanistan, saying, “I think the ‘narcissist in chief’ is in over his head and is detrimental to our national security.
A less qualified presidential candidate would have been hard to find. Yet Obama was not only a serious candidate and ultimate victor, but during his campaign, he pranced around, acting as if he already was president and the election was merely a ceremony to formalize his taking of the crown… even displaying his own seal which looked remarkably like the president’s official seal.
For the narcissist, nothing matters more than maintaining his narcissistic supply. From Obama’s perspective, being chided by a cable news commentator really is a more pressing exigency than the reality of Iran amassing nuclear weapons. Obama is already showing the truculence typical of narcissists when they sense a threat to narcissistic supply.
The current leader of the free world is not in touch with reality. The toady press gleefully accepts his fabrications and denials. And mental health professionals have shown a remarkable lack of curiosity about the mental health of the president of the United States.

I am way ahead of the world in being weary of the Obama ways.
If we can get some conservatives elected to congress in 2010 to balance the power structure out, then the narcissist’s ego will be deflated. As far as Sarcozy’s comments, why doesn’t he step up to the plate if he’s concerned about a void in leadership?
Amazing, this was from Canada. Thank you for posting it, Opie. It sounds like the world realizes we ALL have a big problem.
I won't review why the press is still happy to provide Obama his narcissistic supply--plenty of others have already addressed that.
But mental health professionals...well, anyone with half a brain can see what happens when you question or analyze our king--ooops, I mean, president. When you have a president more concerned with going after conservative media, getting the Olympics for Chicago, and ignoring such things as Afghanistan and Iran...of course he will go after any mental health professional who will imply any mental personality failing. Narcissists hate any attack to their egos; a question of his mental health would be met extremely personally to the point that he'd be looking to tear the doctor to shreds even as one of our enemies would be sending a nuclear missile to land on the White House lawn. (The nuke would be an attack on America, not him personally, so it wouldn't be a first priority in his book as something that needs to be addressed.)
Narcissists are very charming...especially when you are giving them what you want. Obama charmed many in our nation, charmed our media...and no narcissist can keep up that charming persona forever. The "me" attitude becomes tiresome, then annoying, then it angers the people who once liked them. Obama's crossed over into at least "annoying" to many of those supporters. In due time it will reach anger...then watch out, because when you are angry at a narcissist the narcissist will do everything and anything to go after you. That's when Obama will really be bad for our country (not that he isn't already, of course).
Excellent article and insights. It's amazing to me that the world wanted this guy in the first place, and now they have him, they finally see what we've seen all along . . .
USA Admiral, I'm right there with you. So much so that I could not even stomach putting a pic of him on my blog for the purpose of this post.
Ticked, my woman's intuition tells me that what Sarkozy said about Obama at the U.N. was a big step for him. The French were absolutely WILD about Obama during our election. My daughter was in France at the time. She felt there might be rioting if McCain had won. So for Sarkozy to step out of the European Socialist line and speak boldly against Obama is a form of leadership. As for leadership on specific matters, I can only hope that those things happen on a back channel. I pray that Israel has supporters in this world who stand by her during these dark days.
As for Obama's ego, he will be wounded by our actions in 2010, if he is not already. He will want revenge. There is a lot of damage a Commander in Chief can do to the military and the nuclear arsenal and the country, even if he becomes a lame duck prematurely. I fear that.
Odie, this is not the first time I have had to venture outside of this country's borders in order to find good reporting on American politics.
The Legacy Media/Mainstream Media/State-Influenced Media (a rose by any other name is still a rose) won't do any real reporting outside Fox. That's why people turn to the blogs and to Twitter to try and find out what the heck is going on in America and the world.
When I have to go to the BBC, Canadian Press (pretty good for the most part) and God forbid, Pravda, to find out what's happening in the US -- we have some serious frigging problems here at home.
Opus, not only are you incredibly informative in your post, but even your comments back are overflowing with information. I refer to your talk about Sarkozy's leadership, considering France's desire for Obama to win, etc.
Michele, I do expect Obama to do things that are petty and vengeful. He does not have our best interests at heart.
Fuzzy Slippers, sometimes it is a terrible thing to be right.
Yeah, LL, remember the Pravda TV story on the Tea Parties April 15th? Shameful that there were no American TV stations doing similar reporting. Shameful.
Candle, we all may be one small cog in the great scheme of things, but we all contribute in our way. I am glad I am able to help.
Me, Me, Me, Me, I I I, that jerk is SO in love with himself, I bet he kisses his OWN ASS every morning.
He is a clinical sociopath, narcissist, and a disaster for the country. I'm with you Opie, I can't bear to post his ugly mug on my blog when I write about him...that's why I've been sticking with cute animals lately. My poor eyes need a rest. Lord knows every time we turn on the TV, there it is! yuk. Pray for tonight that your hometown is spared from his latest money grubbing scheme.
If only Sarkozy could see that the man he is supporting for the role of EU President, Tony B. Liar, (God help us), is Obama's evil twin, Opie. Great post.
