Still loving martial arts

My boy still LOVES Brazilian Jujitsu. He loves every minute of the classes. Usually the class consists of 20 minutes of warm-up exercises, then technique demonstration and practice, then sparring, followed by a game. Recently they played tug-of-war. R is 4th from the right in this picture.

Then last night he was awarded his 4th belt stripe. Here he is pictured with his teacher and a few classmates. R is second from the right.

GREAT JOB, R! :) WOW! This is such a good thing for a child to be in. I'm sure it really helps with being focused, having a strategy, and building confidence too. Not to mention just the strength you need.

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I tried doing Karate with my kids and I lasted about 6 months! Jujitsu is seriously cool (as long as they don't want to grow up to be Ultimate fighters...hahaha).

My girls LOVE Taekwondo for some reason! I was never in to martial arts so this is completely new to me. The big monkey is a green belt (and need sto be bought sparring equipment) and the little monkey is a yellow belt!

I know that my little man would just love to take a martial arts class. I'm holding off for a few months. I don't want him to be lethal just quite yet. Good Job, R! Thanks for visiting.

How exciting!
I think my oldest daughter (10) would do well in a martial arts class. She keeps saying she's too shy. Was your son shy at first too?

Ann, he was not exactly shy, but he was depressed and self conscious after being bullied at school last year. He has almost forgotten about that now, thank goodness. As for your daughter, I say try different things. When she finds what she loves, there will be no question. When I signed up my son, I told him that he needed to complete a month of classes, then he could decide.

I have both a niece and a nephew (two sides of the family) that have hugely benefited from Tae Kwon Do. The martial arts seem so great at boosting confidence and helping kids focus . . . they even teach them about being respectful, even more so than group sports. So great that your son loves this! He looks so happy in the pic!
